Get to know William Merryn Hill!
Born and raised in England just outside the city of Bristol, William dreamt of becoming a classical guitarist, but since the music department at his college didn’t consider guitar as a serious instrument, he decided to get a teaching degree specialising in Biology and English.
Whilst in college, William took up rowing, folk dancing (especially longsword), ballroom dancing, orienteering, fencing (specializing in foil), and helping with props and sets for the drama society.
Realising teaching was not for him, he went to university to study dentistry. William continued his love of folk dancing and began the Morris and Rapper sword (fast, furious, and just a touch risky), Began horseback riding (jumping and dressage).
He met his wife when auditioning for the national Folk Festival at the Albert Hall in London. Having danced there three times, he and his wife represented England at overseas festivals twice
After graduation, William was lucky to be hired to work with a very eminent dentist/surgeon/anesthetist who taught him lessons in surgery and anesthetics that have stayed with him all his life. He's also forever grateful to have taken part in medical missions offering dental care to the people of Mexico, Honduras, Cameroon, Liberia and Myanmar (six times).
He also worked with adult Special Needs patients for fifteen years and now works with psychiatric and brain injury patients.
William is the proud father of six biological and two adopted children. Grandfather of seven, soon to be eight, he lives with his beautiful wife Griselda in Lacombe, Alberta Canada with their two cats, two gerbils, two dogs (Retriever and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) and a canary.
